AIFF is a chunked audio container used by music, production, and archival applications. Its relatively large files can preserve an excellent speech source, provided the intended channels are present and decodable.

AIFF stores information in labeled chunks, including audio data and format properties. File size and extension are useful clues, but the actual codec, channel layout, and duration remain the evidence used at ingest.
Use the master for close listening
Studio masters make subtle speech easier to verify, yet room tone, microphone bleed, and several open channels can still confuse speakers. Review names and overlapping dialogue while listening to the exact source mix.
Before you upload
- Choose the original session bounce with the complete dialogue mix and documented sample rate.
- Check channel routing so interviews are not split into an inaudible or effects-only side.
Limits worth knowing
- Large lossless recordings take longer to transfer without guaranteeing that the microphone captured clean speech.
- Less common compression variants may not decode like conventional uncompressed AIFF exports.

Is every AIFF file uncompressed?
Often, but the container can describe different sample sizes, rates, channels, and compression variants. The decoded stream is inspected instead of assuming every AIFF is identical PCM.
