Tape-era media has two timelines
A DV stream organizes compressed video with associated audio at a defined frame cadence. The pipeline identifies the DV demuxer and separately confirms audio instead of inferring speech from the presence of pictures.
Audit capture discontinuities
Dropouts may replace a word with noise or shift later timing. Sample the transcript around visible capture glitches and compare speaker changes with the image when reconstructing an archive interview.

- Compare the beginning and end with the source tape log to catch incomplete captures.
- Keep the raw transfer and document any repair or audio remapping performed before upload.
Limits worth knowing
- Tape dropouts and capture discontinuities can damage both sound and time continuity.
- Interlaced video and fixed DV frame rates do not guarantee that an old capture stayed synchronized.

Should DV tape dropouts be repaired before transcription?
Keep the raw tape capture as evidence. A carefully logged repair derivative can help a decoder cross damaged sections, but review words and timestamps on both sides of every dropout because concealment cannot recreate missing speech.
