Lossless and hybrid modes differ
WavPack can store lossless samples or a hybrid core designed to work with separate correction data. The transcription path only claims the decodable .wv object it actually receives and does not imply archival reconstruction.
Separate access from preservation
For oral-history preservation, keep checksums and provenance with the master. Use the transcript as an access aid, then verify quotations, names, and faint passages against the untouched audio.
Before you upload
- Keep any matching correction file with the archive and verify the .wv plays independently for this workflow.
- Document the source checksum and channel layout before creating working derivatives.
Limits worth knowing
- A hybrid core without its expected correction data may not reproduce the original samples losslessly.
- Large archival recordings still depend on microphone quality, channel choice, and an intact file.
