The audio track is what matters
An MP4 file is an ISO Base Media File Format container, not one fixed video codec. Tracks can have different codecs and purposes, so ingest has to inspect the actual object and select a usable audio stream.
From transcript to subtitles
Once the words are timed, subtitle export still needs reading-speed and line-break review. Names, on-screen context, and intentional pauses are editorial decisions rather than properties of the MP4 container.
Before you upload
- Use the original export and confirm that the desired dialogue track is audible from beginning to end.
- Note burned-in titles separately; transcription follows decoded speech and does not perform screen text recognition.
Limits worth knowing
- A silent MP4 or a file without a decodable audio stream cannot produce a spoken transcript.
- Background music, edits, and overlapping dialogue can require more manual subtitle and speaker review.

Does MP4 transcription analyze the video image?
The ingest pipeline reads the media streams and transcribes the available audio track. The video image itself is not used as a source of spoken words.
